Policy
As your Council Member, I will:
-
Continue to modernize Downtown’s infrastructure to withstand extreme heat, flooding, and other climate impacts. This includes flood barriers and a more resilient subway system.
-
Ensure that funds generated from Congestion Pricing are used to make downtown subway stations safer and more accessible, including expanding protected platforms. Additionally, I will push for upgrades to our subway and bus systems to ensure they are clean.
-
Develop housing that is both environmentally sustainable and prepared for climate change. This includes making buildings energy efficient with cooling and heating systems that protect against extreme temperatures.
-
Invest in green jobs and climate solutions that empower local communities, create economic opportunities, and reduce emissions. This includes labor job training programs and support for green industries that help build a sustainable future for all New Yorkers.
-
Increase urban green spaces, creating rooftop gardens and supporting local food production to reduce urban heat islands, provide natural cooling, and improve food security across the city.
Green Spaces & Climate Change Resiliency
The climate crisis is already here and New York City must lead the way in confronting it. From extreme weather events to rising sea levels, our city is facing environmental challenges that threaten the safety and well-being of all New Yorkers—especially the most vulnerable among us. We can't afford to wait any longer to take meaningful action.
The heart of the city is Council District 1, a vibrant hub with major business, retail, and residential developments that drive the city's economy and culture. We must ensure that these areas are not only thriving but resilient in the face of climate change. As someone who has been involved in efforts to protect and revitalize green spaces like Gotham Park, I’ve seen firsthand how local action can make a real difference. But the stakes are higher than ever and we need bold, decisive steps to protect our planet and our future.
I’m committed to making sure New York City leads in environmental resilience, from investing in green infrastructure to strengthening our buildings and neighborhoods against extreme weather. I’ll advocate for policies to reduce emissions, protect our natural resources, and ensure that no community is left behind as we transition to a more sustainable future.
This is not just about the environment—it’s about protecting the future of every New Yorker.
